Social Enterprise Boss Delivers Master Class
Would be social entrepreneurs in Cumnock were given a master class on starting community based enterprises by Peter Holbrook, the Chief Executive of the Social Enterprise UK.
Peter gave the keynote speech at a Social Enterprise workshop in Netherthird Community Centre which attracted an audience of around 50, including people with potential new business ideas and organisations offering support.
Diane Bate, Development Officer with the Coalfields Regeneration Trust, who help fund the event said:
"We were keen to build on the interest in social enterprises in this part of East Ayrshire following the success of Jamie Campbell who won the £50,000 top prize in our recent Community Challenge.
"Peter Holbrook was a tremendous speaker and full of great advice for would-be entrepreneurs.
"He warned them that one of the biggest temptations was to try and do everything themselves, when they real key to success was using their community links to spread the load.
"He also reminded them that there is funding support available, even in these harsh economic times, but they had to make sure their business aims and objectives were in line with the criteria set by potential funders".
Jamie Campbell who won the Coalfields Regeneration Trust's Challenge with his plans to launch a garden maintenance and grass cutting business in Netherthird was among the audience.
