BLAZE: the scorch marks are clearly visible following the incident

FIRE chiefs have slammed the yobs who put lives at risk by sparking a blaze at two Cumnock properties.

Six wheelie bins were set on fire in Glengyron Avenue in the early hours of Sunday morning, with the flames quickly spreading to two doors and a window at the rear of the properties.

A garden fence was also engulfed by the fire and only the quick reactions of a neighbour prevented any tragedies.

Alan Coughtrie, Watch Commander at Cumnock Fire Station said: "If there had been any fascia hanging down over the doors on these two homes then it would have caught fire when the doors did and we could have been looking at an extremely serious house fire."
