A POLITICAL war of words has broken out over East Ayrshire's vacant housing stock.

The opposition Labour group on East Ayrshire Council have slammed the SNP administration for what they have dubbed the 'mismanagement of housing stock', insisting this has led to an excess of 300 vacant homes across the area.

Labour argue the empty homes are costing EAC around £1m per year in lost revenue.

But SNP have hit back claiming the figures are no worse than when Labour were last in the corridors of power in East Ayrshire.

SNP Councillor Jim Buchanan argued repairs have been taking place in recent weeks in an effort to catch-up from the festive holidays.
