Farmers' market returns this month
CUMNOCK will be bursting with local produce on February 24 when the popular Farmers' Market makes a welcome return to The Square.
And as part of a programme of events and entertainments planned by Town Centre Manager Kathryn Howell, it will be held on the fourth Friday of every month from now until December.
The market - which will be open from 10am to 2pm - will have a wide range of fresh produce comes from local producers with the added attraction of preserves from Perthshire, cheese from the Isle of Arran, fresh fruit and vegetables, curries from Bombay Streetfoods and much much more.
Kathryn said: "The Farmers' Market is becoming a great feature of Cumnock life. For local producers it gives them an outlet which cuts down on their transport costs and for their customers it provides a chance to find out more about their food. And for local retail outlets and cafes it increases footfall and trade by encouraging everyone to shop local.
"Since we started the Farmers Markets last year we've attracted a growing band of loyal customers and because of this the producers were happy to increase the frequency and number of dates for this year."
"Our CARS projects are starting to make a real difference to the townscape and the Mercat Cross and Old Cumnock Church Square lend themselves to events like the market - it's a great place to come, browse and meet people while picking up some excellent bargains produced by the people who sell them."
