Last chance to nominate your education stars
People in East Ayrshire are being urged to enter their local schools, nurseries or individuals into the Scottish Education Awards 2012 so that their exceptional achievements can be recognised. Deadline for submissions is Friday 2 March 2012.
The awards, which celebrate the achievements of schools and teachers across Scotland, have attracted hundreds of nominations so far, but many more schools and individuals are worthy of acknowledgment.
Last year, there were three finalists from East Ayrshire - St Joseph's Academy, James Hamilton Academy, Kilmarnock and New Cumnock Primary.
Councillor Jim Roberts, East Ayrshire Council Spokesperson for Lifelong Learning, said: "We have many examples of creativity, innovation and good practice in schools across East Ayrshire. I would like to encourage local people to put forward nominations for this year's Scottish Education Awards. Parents, pupils, teachers or any member of the public can nominate an educational establishment or staff member.
"In recent years, East Ayrshire schools have been very successful, reflecting the excellent practice in our classrooms and highlighting the achievements of our pupils. I look forward to similar success this year to recognise the hard work which takes place in our schools."
The Scottish Education Awards are open to all publicly funded schools, including secondary, primary, nursery and special schools. There are also categories to recognise and reward the dedication of teachers, head-teachers and support staff across the country.
Nominations are currently being invited for all 17 categories including Teacher of the Year, Global Citizenship, Literacy and Numeracy across Learning and Sustainable Schools.
