Animal welfare charity OneKind, formerly Advocates for Animals, is looking for volunteers from East Ayrshire for an amazing new international charity challenge to help end animal cruelty.

Can you imagine caring for a tiger, helping it return to the wild? Or working with monkeys and gibbons to help them recover from being stolen and turned into pets?

Unlike traditional physical charity events abroad, where volunteers climb mountains or trek, OneKind is offering volunteers from East Ayrshire a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spend a week caring for an incredible variety of over 300 rescued animals, including monkeys, gibbons, bears, a tiger and a crocodile.

The OneKind Wildlife Rescue Challenge will see a team travel to Thailand between 15 and 24 November 2012 to volunteer in a wildlife sanctuary based in beautiful temple grounds. The sanctuary focuses on rehabilitating wild animals captured as pets and, if possible, preparing them for a reintroduction to their natural habitats. It also provides a permanent sanctuary for life for those animals no-one else is prepared to care for, including sick and disabled creatures.

There's space for 20 people from across the UK to sign up for this exciting event. 60 people have already been in touch with OneKind for information packs, with 3 volunteers already signed up.

Team leader Kirsty Connell said: "I can't wait to take part in this amazing opportunity for animal lovers to volunteer in the challenging environment of a rescue sanctuary in the developing world, while fundraising to help animals both at home and abroad.

"I really hope people from East Ayrshire will sign up for this adventure of a lifetime - my mum already has!

"No previous experience is necessary, and unlike other charity challenges like climbing high mountains or trekking, all you need is commitment and buckets of enthusiasm to fundraise for and help animals."

Those interested in taking part should contact Kirsty at kirsty.connell@onekind.org for a free information pack. You need to be aged 18 or over and pay a £200 entry fee to reserve a place.

Participants need to commit to raising a minimum of £2,500 in sponsorship, which will raise a significant amount to support the sanctuary in Thailand and OneKind's campaigns to end animal cruelty. OneKind's team will help volunteers with fundraising support to help everyone reach their target.
