A man who died after a road crash on the B743 Ayr to Annbank Road at St Quivox on Saturday has been named.

The driver of the Citroen Berlingo, who died within Ayr Hospital shortly after arrival, has been named as Robert McPike, of Montgomerie Street, Tarbolton. His relatives are aware.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal and enquiries are continuing in relation to the events leading up to the crash, which took place at around 5.15pm.

The 20 year old driver of the Renault Clio which was also involved in the incident is still detained in Ayr Hospital. His condition is described by staff as stable.

Constable Linda Dolan, Divisional Road Policing, Irvine, is appealing for witnesses. She said: "Extensive enquiries are ongoing into the cause of the crash and I would appeal to anyone who was driving in that area, who may have seen the crash and or the events leading up to it, to contact Divisional Road Policing on 01294 404436."
