A chance for youngsters to be Chancellor
Local MP Cathy Jamieson is calling on young people in Kilmarnock and Loudoun to take up the Chance to be Chancellor and submit their ideas for the 2012 Youth Budget.
The competition, run by the Citizenship Foundation in partnership with Aviva, is open to all 14-18 year olds across the UK and encourages the voters of the future to come up with innovative ideas for taxation and public spending policies.
Running until February 20, applicants can win great prizes, including an iPad and the chance to be on the news, with the finalists attending an awards ceremony at HM Treasury in London.
To enter into the competition, budding Chancellors need to justify their policy choices in a speech, document, presentation or video which can be uploaded onto the website.
Cathy said: "This is a great opportunity for young people in Kilmarnock and Loudoun to get involved in politics and come up with new policies on a range of issues. Too often young people feel that politics doesn't play a part in their lives but decisions taken by Government has a huge impact on them. It will be great to hear what ideas they have for how the Government should spend its money. I hope lots of young people in the area will get involved and get their voices heard."
