A new fund to support local Special Olympians has been established by East Ayrshire Council which will give our local talented athletes the recognition they deserve.

A number of local residents are participating in Special Olympic programmes at home and abroad. Their achievements are a great source of pride for their clubs, their communities and of course for the athletes themselves but on most occasions they have to self fund their place at competitions.

Councillor Kathy Morrice, Spokesperson for Improving Community Health and Wellbeing said: "We are incredibly proud of our talented special athletes and are very conscious of the fact that they must self fund their places in national and international competitions. It seemed only just to us that we establish a fund which will support, recognise and reward our athletes. The fund will run until the World Games in 2015."
