THE DARK Sky Observatory in Dalmellington is set to fire East Ayrshire onto the worldwide map.

That was the ambitious message from Mark Gibson, the owner of Craigengillan Estate, after the project was officially launched at a ceremony last Friday.

He joined schoolkids, local dignitaries and other interested parties as Fergus Ewing, MSP, Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Tourism cut the first turf.

It will be the first of it's kind in Britain, one of only three in Europe and one of ten across the world. Yes, this state-of-the-art observatory will be right here on our doorsteps in East Ayrshire.
