THE latest heats of the national poetry slam takes place in Cumnock this week.
Poets perform two poems in two-minute slots with the three best then facing each other in a final.
The winner receives a cash prize and a place in the national slam championship at the Aye Write Festival in March. He or she also qualifies for the heats of the BBC4 Poetry slam at the Edinburgh Fringe in August.
The day will be hosted by Robin Cairns and is sponsored by social Enterprise CREATE.
Local poet Jim Monaghan, who was runner-up in last year's national finals and is current Ayrshire slam champion, said: "Slams are very exciting and can be highly entertaining.
"I am hoping that people get along and we maybe even unearth some budding locals who want to take part. All you need is three short poems and who knows, you might win."
The event takes place on Sunday, January 29 from 4.30pm to 8.30pm at the Mercat Hotel.
