Showing Coalfields Sports Clubs How to Box Clever
Football, boxing and bowling clubs in East Ayrshir's former mining areas have been offered a golden opportunity to learn how to take their organisations to the next level.
Community Enterprise, the organisation which supports community businesses, has joined forces with the Coalfields Regeneration Trust to stage a free conference to help sports clubs thrive, even in challenging times.
Delegates will hear how a Fife bowling club decided to promote bowls as a family activity and attracted over 200 local schoolchildren to taster sessions at the club.
Youth Football Scotland, itself a social enterprise will help football clubs tap into social media networks to boost their membership.
Attendees will also hear how Blantyre Miner's Welfare is helping nurture the next generation of local boxing talent through its state of the art gym, boxing ring and changing facilities.
Nicky Wilson Scottish Trustee of the Coalfields Regeneration Trust said: "We are delighted to support this conference because local sports clubs are at the very heart of thriving and vibrant communities.
"They promote healthy lifestyles act as social hubs and play a vital role in encouraging young people to get involved in sport."
Orla O'Donnell, Social Enterprise Development Officer with Community Enterprise said: "Community sports clubs bring fantastic benefits to the people and towns they serve.
"But they can only continue to make a difference if they are financially secure and in a position to attract new members and supporters.
"This conference will be packed with practical tips and advice on how to do both."
The conference runs from 9.30am to 2.30pm on Thursday February 23, at Blantyre Miners Community Resource Centre. Places are free, but limited and priority will be given to organisations based in former mining communities.
