MEMBERS of the public are next week being called upon to develop a major new windfarm.

Swedish energy company Vattenfall are planning a new site in the Kyle Forrest between Dalmellington, Carsphairn and New Cumnock.

Public consultation meetings are being held at Dalmellington Community Centre on Tuesday, November 22 and at New Cumnock Community Centre the following day. Both will be open from 2 to 8pm.

Colin Ormston, Director, Development, for Vattenfall in the UK, said: "Vattenfall is hoping for a strong turn out to our consultation sessions to enable us to capture the views of as many people as possible in the area and we want local people, communities and businesses to be involved from the start in the development of a wind farm at South Kyle.

"They will also get the opportunity to discuss the benefits that a wind farm can bring - both locally and more widely - whether it is about having a positive impact on the local economy, helping tackle climate change through the generation of green power or the community benefit fund that the wind farm would pay in to."
