Wind Farm Bonanza
PLANS for a new windfarm which could power more than half of South West Scotland have been unveiled- just three miles from Kirkconnel and Kelloholm.
Proposals for the 30-turbine windfarm south-west of the villages have been released by Dunfermline based renewable firm Burcote Wind.
The turbines have the potential to power 42,000 homes - roughly 60 per cent of all homes in Dumfries and Galloway.
The company say, if approved, the Sandy Knowe Wind Farm would bring in £225,000 per year in a community benefit fund which would generate £5.6 million for Upper Nithsdale during its 25 year lifetime.
This application is just one of many wind farm proposals throughout Cumnock, Doon Valley and Upper Nithsdale.
Last week Dalmellington Community Council savaged revised Infinis plans for a windfarm near their village as 'insulting and arrogant'.
Meanwhile in New Cumnock RWE npower pledged to listen to the community's views when they displayed plans for their Ashmark Hill Windfarm south of the village.
