Band's Glasgow gig herald start of new musical times
A CUMNOCK musician is hoping his band's headline gig at King Tut's this week will herald the start of a new era for their music.
Jamie Moan, a school teacher by day, is excited about the latest concert at the popular Glasgow music venue and believes Symptoms will use the city centre show to showcase a new sound and new songs.
Jamie will be joined on stage tomorrow (Thursday) night by band mates Craig Patterson (guitar), Paul McGurn (lead guitarist) and Martin Malloy (bass) and the East Ayrshire guys will be hoping the audience will great their new album Welcome to the Fire with warmth.
Influenced by rock veterans the Rolling Stones and more contemporary Stereophonics, Jamie describes the band's sound as "rock with a pop twist" and make no excuses to being loving the sounds from the rock n' roll sixties.
Jamie, a former Junior footballer with Cumnock, hopes their new album will take them to a new level and a bigger audience and admits there are some similarities between Glasvegas, who the guys have shared a stage with in the past.
Songs from the new album have already received good reviews and Jamie believes the album finally captures the band's live presence - fundamental to a band which simply likes to get together and play. The album's producer "got them" and as a result Symptoms are happier with this album than they thought possible.
Looking to the future? Jamie believes there is only one thing which as an unsigned band they haven't achieved... performing at a festival.
"There is no doubt we would love to do a festival, T-in-the-Park would be fantastic. We have been together since 2008 and so we have spent a long time working on our live performance and a festival is all that's alluded us."
A festival date might not be on the cards for 2011 but there is always next year although before then there is the new album launch at the Renfrew Ferry in Glasgow on August 20.
And before that?
Jamie is getting married in two weeks time and admits he has spent more time rehearsing than on wedding preparations although his bandmates have promised to get him to the church on time.
