A short film about the Catrine project will be shown on the STV Six O'clock News this evening. The group will be competing against a Falkirk project.
The idea is to build a community garden, which will be open to all Catrine residents, behind Catrine Community Trust's Visitor Centre.
The project will enable local people to learn how to grow fruit and vegetables and use the produce to eat more healthily. The garden will have a geodesic dome and polytunnel growing facilities, as well as raised beds for vegetables and flowers.
This project complements the Trust's 'grow your own' promotions, which have been made under the carbon footprint reduction project funded by Scottish Government's Climate Challenge Fund.
Catrine is a small village of around 2000 inhabitants in beautiful rural Ayrshire, with the River Ayr running through its heart. It has a vibrant history as an ancient cotton mill town at the forefront of 19th century technology.
