Catrine Hydro plans under attack
PLANS for a new hydro-electric scheme in Catrine have come under attack by campaigners who claim it will effectively kill salmon fishing in the area.
They have lodged a series of objections to SEPA and will reinforce their opposition with a petition signed by local anglers dismissing the official proposals by Catrine Community Trust.
The Salmon Fishing Board - a statutory board - along with the Ayrshire Rivers Trust (ART) have branded the plans incompetent and incomplete.
And their views are supported by many in the local fishing fraternity who fear the plans will impact on anglers throughout the river and make Catrine a haven for poachers.
But the Trust have hit back insisting the scheme will ENHANCE fishing while creating a major new revenue stream for the area.
