The National Museum of Rural Life has announced that due to the recent wintry weather conditions, the Shetland foals and donkeys that were due to be on show at its annual Christmas Fair will now be unable to attend.

We had earlier stated that two Hallybush youngsters were taking their donkeys for a Nativity scene.

The Museum staff in East Kilbride have reluctantly decided that the current slippery conditions would make it difficult to ensure the safety of the animals. The indoor curling demonstration has also been cancelled.

The admission price has been reduced to the normal Museum admission price to reflect this change.

The Christmas Fair with its craft fair, pantomime, RSPB advice stall, craft sessions, parlour games, Christmas music and appearance by Santa will still proceed as planned.

Duncan Dornan, General Manager at the National Museum of Rural Life, said; "We would obviously like to apologise for any disappointment caused, however safety is a priority. The rest of the Fair will continue as planned and is set to provide a great festive family day out." The Christmas Fair runs from 10am until 5pm on Sunday 12 December. Admission: Adults £6, Concessions £5 Children under 13, free. For more information on the event, call the Museum on Tel: 0131 247 4377. Website www.nms.ac.uk
