Who am I? Who are you? Youth information resource launch event
Terrence Higgins Trust (THT) Scotland in partnership with NHS Ayrshire & Arran, South Ayrshire Council and Barnardo’s Scotland’s Hear 4 U project will be hosting an event to launch Ayrshire’s new lesbian, gay and bisexual and transgender (LGBT) information resource on Saturday 2 October from 1.30pm - 3.30pm.
The day will be dedicated to developing new local support networks and tackling the issue of isolation that is often felt by many LGBT people in rural areas. Although things are steadily improving for LGBT people, the fear of homophobic attack and disapproval can stop people accessing support services and talking about their true feelings. In the last year alone THT Scotland has been inundated with requests for more local support and around half of these are young LGBT people.
There are very few safe spaces where LGBT people can socialise in Ayrshire and if you are younger, living at home and on a limited budget, travelling to the nearest gay scene in Glasgow is not an option. Glasgow’s gay scene is just an extension of the cities drinking culture so anyone under 18 is excluded from these social environments.
The event is open to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people up to the age of 25. Friends are also welcome. Venue details will be provided on request.
