NEW CUMNOCK is set for primetime TV tonight on BBC hit programme 'The One Show'.
The Knochshinnoch Colliery disaster of 1950 will feature when the show discusses the plight of the 33 trapped Chilean Miners from 7pm tonight (Thursday September 2).
BBC reporters confirmed the film shoot would take place in New Cumnock yesterday (Wednesday).
A memorial wreath laying to mark the 60-year anniversary of the Knochshinnoch Colliery pit disaster will be held this Sunday September 5.
Organised by the Afton Lily Social Club, a service will be held at the Knockshinnoch Cairn (opposite the Cemetery) at 2pm to remember the 13 miners who lost their lives in New Cumnock's worst mining accident.
Also to mark the anniversary a four day exhibition in memory of the locals involved in the mining industry will take place at the Hugh Campbell Hall, Loch Park, The Castle next week. "Remember Them" depicting mining of the era will run from September 6 to 9 from 12noon til 6pm. The exhibition will feature Eddie Bristow's "Hardley Main Colliery", DVD's from Coalfield Community Federation Collection, and pictures of New Cumnock and the surrounding pits.
