Detectives at Ayr Police Office are appealing for witnesses following a robbery at a shop in Ayr on Saturday 21 August 2010.

And it is possible that someone from Cumnock and Doon Valley may have been in the area and may have seen something.

Around 4.10pm hours, two men entered the premises of Sandgate News at 94 Sandgate, Ayr, assaulted a 21 year-old male member of staff and demanded money. They then made off into Boswell Park with a three-figure sum of cash.

Fortunately the shopkeeper was uninjured and did not require medical attention; however, he has been left extremely shaken as a result. Nobody else was in the shop at the time of the robbery.

The suspects are described as follows:

Suspect 1 - a white male, around 5ft 10 tall, of medium to heavy build, with blond hair. At the time of the incident he was wearing a beige coloured hooded top, a blue t-shirt and jeans.

Suspect 2 - male, white, approximately 5ft 8 tall, of slim build, with very short brown hair. He was wearing a dark blue ‘Nike’ zipped top and brown boots.

Officers have been scouring local CCTV footage in a bid to identify the men involved, as well as speaking to local business owners and residents

Detective Inspector Kevin Owens at Ayr CID is appealing for witnesses. He said: “This was a frightening ordeal for the young man working in the shop and I would appeal for anyone with information about this incident to come forward to police.

“The robbery happened in broad daylight and at a time where the area would have been extremely busy with tourists and shoppers, as well as people enjoying a drink in one of the many pubs just near to the shop.”

He added: “I would appeal to any members of the public who may have been in the area around the time and may have information regarding the incident or may have seen the males described acting suspiciously before, during or after the incident, to get in touch as a matter of urgency. The information they hold could very well lead us to the men responsible.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at Ayr Police Office on 01292 664 000. Alternatively, information can be passed to CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111 - anonymity will be maintained.
