Foster carers, children and young people enjoyed thrills and spills at Loudoun Castle Theme Park this week as part of a celebratory event that aimed to raise the profile of the need to support East Ayrshire children living with East Ayrshire Council’s foster carers.

This was the fourth year that an event has been held, and while previous events have focused on consultation and partnership working, this year’s was all about having fun!

Consultations have already taken place this year with carers at their support groups and Business and Issues meetings and with young people at the Young People’s Forums regarding service provision and improvements. Ideas were taken from all and the focus this year is on shared experiences and networking. One of the most popular suggestions for this year’s event to come out of the consultations was a day out at Loudoun Castle Theme Park. It was so popular in fact, that 48 foster carers and 87 children and young people went along on the day!

The Fun Day provided opportunities for foster carers to meet up and share their experiences. It also enabled the children and young people to feel less isolated and to integrate with their peers in a social environment.

Councillor John MacKay, Spokesperson for Community Wellbeing, said: “The day out was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. It gave foster carers a good opportunity to discuss what they have learned and for the young people to meet other children going through similar experiences to them.

“East Ayrshire Council is always looking for people who are interested in becoming foster carers and if you think you might like more information about what is involved, call 0800 434 66 33 or visit www.fosteringandadoption.org.uk for more information.”
