WEEK five of an 11 week project to upgrade the A76 trunk road through Mauchline has been completed.
WORK PLANNED
The £1.6m project is designed and managed by Amey on behalf of Transport Scotland, and is delivered by principal contractor Barr Construction.
This week work began on the southbound carriageway up to the end of the scheme at the 40mph gateway. Restrictions on traffic will continue through this period. Landscaping will begin on the whole scheme, including phase one, and is scheduled for three days. All businesses will remain open throughout the works.
COMPLETE
Five-hundred and eighty metres of the southbound carriageway has been completed with a permanent running surface has now been applied to both the north and southbound carriageways. Southbound parking bays and bus lay-bys are currently under construction. Northbound footway works have now been completed on Kilmarnock Road. Business liaison continues with all businesses throughout the town on a daily basis.
DIVERSIONS
The A76 remains closed with local access available only - diversions are in place.
Phase two diversions: Vehicles over 7.5 tonnes are diverted northbound via A70 and A77 and the same in reverse. All other traffic is diverted via A719, B743. The workforce is on-site between 7am and 7pm.
The workforce will work seven days each week to complete the works. Mauchline Cross remains open until the final weekend of the works.
