AN AEROSOL company will create 100 new jobs following a £14million investment
The investment to Barony Universal Products has allowed the Auchinleck firm to take over the abandoned Simclar electronics factory in Irvine, which has been empty for more than three years, with plans to create a state-of-the-art production, storage and distribution facility.
The company, which was stared 15 years ago by entrepreneur Stewart Shaw, is already one of the UK’s major supplier of aerosols, providing a wide range of own label products to Europe’s leading retailers as well as producing products for top brands such as Revlon, Ted Baker and FCUK.
The company, which turns over around £22million a year, already employs 106 people at its current premises but the move to the new 18 acre site just 20 miles away in Irvine will allow them to double the workforce, invest more in research and development and provide a more cost effective 'full product service’ for a growing list of international clients.
Now, with the aid of investment from Russian shareholders Questbridge, the HSBC bank and a £1.98million grant from Scottish Enterprise’s Regional Selective Assistance, Barony aims to make the new site a launch pad for further expansion into UK and European markets.
Stewart Shaw, Managing Director said: “The acquisition of the new site will give us a perfect base for Barony Universal to expand in what is a highly competitive global market and make Scotland a centre of excellence for the industry. We want to see Scotland as the Groups European hub for aerosol manufacture and it is important that we keep the company in Ayrshire as a show of loyalty to the local people, many of whom have been with us since we started, who have worked so hard to make the company such a success. Barony’s new premises will enable us to invest in the future of the business and to provide more job opportunities for local people.”
