The Scottish SPCA is calling on animal lovers in Ayrshire and South West
Scotland to help raise desperately needed funds to care for abused,
abandoned and injured animals in the region.
The charity is seeking fundraising volunteers to support Scottish Animal
Week, which runs from 6 - 12 September.
Ayrshire and South West Scotland Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre
Manager Marion Hainey said, "Last year our Centre cared for 387 animals
and we're as busy as ever this year as well.
"As an animal welfare charity we receive no government or lottery
funding which means we rely entirely on the generosity of the public to
continue or vital work.
"During Scottish Animal Week we have opportunities to fundraise across
the country. Even if someone can only spare an hour or two to shake a
collection tin, their help would be greatly appreciated by us and all of
the animals in our care.
"It's something we always say because it's true, every pound and penny
raised really does make a difference and helps give animals in desperate
need of our help a second chance in life."
The Scottish SPCA is also appealing to local supporters to donate pet
food to help feed the thousands of animals in its care. This could be
anything from tinned or dried food to pet treats. Food can be donated at
the Ayrshire and South West Scotland Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre
at Mainholm, Ayr, or at selected supermarkets and pet stores locally.
If you would like to help fundraise or for more information on pet food
donation collection points please contact Sharon Meiklejohn on 03000 999
999 or email fundraising@scottishspca.org.
