THE CENTENARY celebrations for Sanquhar's Riding of the Marches kicks off this weekend.

Take a look at our Timetable of events to find out what's happening.

FRIDAY AUGUST 13,

Investiture of Principals in front of Tolbooth. Dinner dance will follow in Town Hall with music provided by MYSTERY TRAIN.

SATURDAY AUGUST 14

Barbeque at Church Road. The Cornets Club have arranged the bottle stall, burgers, lamb rolls, soup, peas etc.

SUNDAY AUGUST 15

Kirkin of Cornet: This year after laying the wreath at the War memorial The Cornets Club parade to St Brides Church for the annual kirkin of the cornet.

MONDAY AUGUST 16

Krazy Games: The local fire fighters again assist the Cornets Club to have fun in the Square, pillow fight in the water, foam race, dizzie lizzie etc. Stirlings Funfair are the sponsor.

TUESDAY AUGUST 17

Troopers Ball: "FRESH" return again this year to entertain all the visitors and guests to this great ball.

WEDNESDAY AUGUST 18

Re-enactment Ceremony: The ceremony will take place in front of the Tollbooth.

THURSDAY AUGUST 19

Fiddle Concert and OAP Party: The party for our senior citizens has moved to Thursday this year and they will be entertained by the Gallovidians along with the very popular Ensigns choir.

FRIDAY AUGUST 20

Proclamation:

From 7.00pm proclamation is read at various points throughout the Royal Burgh

SATURDAY AUGUST 21

Main Day:

Ride the Marches over 100 horses

Coronation of Sanquhar Queen, crowning by Duchess of Buccleuch

Cornets report and parade of Sanquhar Queen's

Parade of decorated floats with original 1910 cart

Horses

Bands

then in the Lorimer Park all afternoon free entertainment:

Pipe Band championship

Drakes Duck display

Motor bike display

loads of children's entertainment

Baracuda marching band

TA marching band

Forthbridges Accordion Band

Massed bands at 5.15pm, marching from the Lorimer Park in to town with Upper Nithsdale pipe band, Lockerbie, Alloa Bowmar, Stonehouse pipe band, Lochmaben pipe band,

along with Stewartry wind band and our very own Silver Band from Sanquhar

Dance to follow in Town Hall to complete a great day for all.

SUNDAY AUGUST 22

Ride around town: There will be a ride round the town with past sashes from Sanquhar, the older ones will ride round the town on an open top bus.

MONDAY AUGUST 23

Torch light procession and firework display: To complete the centenary celebrations a torch light procession will leave from Sanquhar Primary School, wax torches, glow battons, flashing blue horns etc ending with a Fireworks display by Absolute Fireworks at the washing green area.
