The fourth week of an 11 week project to significantly upgrade the A76 trunk road in Mauchline has been completed. The £1.6m project is designed and managed by Amey on behalf of Transport Scotland, and is delivered by principal contractor Barr Construction.
Work progressed during week four:
Planing of 580m of the northbound carriageway was completed on Sat 31 July.
The northbound carriageway now has a temporary running surface
The monoblock parking and bus lay-bys were excavated. The bus lay-by was excavated to 460mm
Footway works at the junction beside the community centre took place involving the installation of tactile paving and new kerbs
The smell of gas was reported on 2 August by Barr Construction on Kilmarnock Road. Scottish Gas Networks attended to complete repairs and confirmed that the leak was not a result of the works
A shrub bed opposite the fire station has been made into a temporary hard standing area to allow for a wider turning circle for fire appliances when work is undertaken across from the fire station
Landscaping and monoblock paving is now underway
There is no delay to the programme due to weather
The AM Service station has confirmed that business has improved since phase 1 works re-opened

Stagecoach advise that all buses are running on time
What’s planned for this week?
Work has moved onto the southbound carriageway
Traffic management has been readjusted
The carriageway has been excavated and is awaiting surfacing later this week
Landscaping and monoblock works continue
An additional four new gullies will be installed
The existing drainage will be flushed
All businesses remain open throughout the works
Hours of operation and traffic management
The A76 remains closed with local access available only - diversions are in place.
Phase 2 diversions: Vehicles over 7.5 tonnes are diverted northbound via A70 and A77 and the same in reverse. All other traffic is diverted via A719, B743.
The workforce is on-site between 7am and 7pm.
The workforce will work seven days each week to complete the works
Mauchline Cross remains open until the final weekend of the works
