Do you know someone within NHS Ayrshire & Arran who is making a real difference to the lives of patients, someone who has gone the extra mile or sets an excellent example to staff? It could be someone who works in a hospital ward - or behind a desk; a doctor - or a volunteer.
If so, why not enter them for Ayrshire Achieves 2010 - NHS Ayrshire & Arran's awards scheme?
Now in its second year, the awards give local people - and NHS staff - the chance to recognise the positive contribution of health workers and volunteers to their NHS. The awards aim to celebrate success, applaud excellence and innovation, and demonstrate continuous improvement in the quality of care.
Dr Wai-yin Hatton, Chief Executive - NHS Ayrshire & Arran, says: "Following the success of last year's awards, we are now welcoming nominations for Ayrshire Achieves 2010. Last year, we got to hear of many wonderful people, projects and plans - all making a real difference to the lives of people within Ayrshire and Arran. I hope that this year we will get to hear even more of these stories. It is those positive, real life experiences that so clearly illustrate what our dedicated staff and volunteers are continuously trying to deliver - an NHS that is cherishing and caring; strives for excellence and continuous improvement; is innovative; aims to work together; and breaks down traditional barriers."
There are seven award categories this year. They are:
Building relationships
Caring for people
Light bulb moments - creativity and innovation
Customer service
Volunteer of the year
Learning achievement
Team of the year
Any member of the public, employee of NHS Ayrshire & Arran and partner organisations can nominate an individual or team employed by NHS Ayrshire & Arran for an award. You can also nominate a volunteer, voluntary group or charity for the volunteer's award.
Margaret McGregor, a member of the Domestic Services team and winner of last year's "Champion of the year" category, says: "Winning one of the Ayrshire Achieves awards came as a complete surprise to me! I really enjoy my work, so it was an added bonus to be recognised for what I do and to know it is valued and respected by others. It gave the whole team a real lift and we certainly had fun celebrating".
John Callaghan, Employee Director - Ayrshire and Arran NHS Board, adds: "Every day we hear of examples of our dedicated staff going the extra mile. They don't do this in anticipation of awards, but because they are committed to providing safe, high quality care. This is an opportunity, however, for their colleagues and members of the public to say, 'We noticed!' So if you know of someone who deserves to be recognised, we would be delighted to hear from you."
