PATIENTS have been "snubbed" by NHS plans to cut beds at Cumnock Hospital, says Councillor Barney Menzies.

And despite a public outcry when proposals first surfaced to axe Elderly and Mental Health beds at East Ayrshire Community Hospital to make room for a £3million state-of-the-art dental facility, NHS Ayrshire and Arran insist: "We have more inpatient beds than we need".

However Cllr Menzies said: "I'm bitterly disappointed by this decision. I'm mystified that they have snubbed the views of the public on this. I have no objections to a new dental facility coming in but it shouldn't be to the detriment of care for the elderly. It's like the NHS are trying to bring this in below the radar. "
