Three in a row for Auchinleck Academy
Auchinleck Academy took the top prize for the third year in a row at the sixth annual inter-schools' final of the Readers' Cup Quiz.
Teams of S1 and S2 pupils from Auchinleck, Cumnock, Doon, Kilmarnock and St Joseph's Academies competed against each other in five rounds of questions on all things 'reading'. New to this year's event were two rounds of 'Battle of the Books' with questions on books by the four authors who visited the secondary schools as part of the Spring Read festival in March.

The winning team was presented with the Readers' Cup (donated by the East Ayrshire Library Service) and National Book Gift Cards (donated by the East Ayrshire School Librarians). All the team members also received a 'goodie bag' containing items donated by the School Librarians and companies including Renaissance Learning.
Councillor Jim Roberts, Spokesperson for Lifelong Learning, said: "I'd like to congratulate the Auchinleck Academy winning team and all of the pupils who took part. They all clearly had a good level of knowledge about books and authors and this competition was a fun way of testing and enhancing that knowledge."
Note to Editor: The four authors who visited schools as part of the Spring Read Festival were Cathy MacPhail, Catherine Forde, Theresa Breslin and Keith Gray.
