Douglas Donaldson

ALARM bells started ringing for a Cumnock man when fraudsters called him up trying to get hold of bank details.

But sweet-talking scamsters cut the call short when ex-finance officer Douglas Donaldson challenged the "required information" needed to issue a tax rebate.

And Douglas from Walker Court, Cumnock is urging everyone to be on guard and not get taken in by the lure of cash.

Former Finance Officer for Scottish Special Housing Association, Douglas, 62, said: "I've worked in finance for years. You should never give out bank details. The caller claimed I was due a big reimbursement on my Council Tax and that my house had been wrongly banded since 1993."

"You could fool a lot of people with that line. They didn't say where they got the information, only that they were calling on behalf of tenants and residents."
