Roadworks in New Cumnock have reached week seven of the delayed 20 week project to significantly upgrade the A76 trunk road in New Cumnock.

The project is designed and managed by Amey on behalf of Transport Scotland, and is delivered by principal contractor Luddon Construction Ltd.

Hand digging has continued to protect against damaging any of the numerous service pipes and cables within the road. The new drainage in the southbound carriageway started being installed, along with around 40m of the new kerb stones were set in place.

Scottish Water attended the site to inspect their infrastructure and took the opportunity to replace old copper pipes. Scotia Gas Networks also attended site and identified gas pipes that need to be lowered. Traffic queues were consistently around 5-6 minutes.

Access to local shops, the petrol station, church, and homes was maintained wherever possible.

Week eight will see hand excavation continuing as will the installation of the new kerbs and drainage southbound Scotia Gas Networks will be on site diverting their pipes.

Colin Mackenzie, Amey's unit manager for south west Scotland said: "Luddon's team is working hard to remove the existing southbound carriageway without damaging any pipes or cables, and progress during this second stage of the scheme is good with part of the new drainage elements and kerbs installed already.

"Amey is working hard, along with Transport Scotland and the principal contractor, to reduce the projected 20 week programme as much as possible and we'll continue to update the community in New Cumnock as the scheme progresses."

A site liaison officer is available at all times on 07725 825 572 to address any access issues or concerns.
