Cathy Jamieson MSP has renewed calls for the Scottish Government to ban snares, after meeting with representatives from Advocates for Animals. Cathy is a former Convenor of the Scottish Parliament's Cross Party Group on Animal Welfare, and is a long time supporter of a ban on snaring. Speaking after the meetimng she said:

" I cannot understand why theScottish Government is dragging its heels on this matter when other jurisdictions are have already taking action. The Northern Ireland Assembly's Environment Committee has recently voted for such a ban. There have been numerous opportunities to implement a ban in Scotland, and on every occasion SNP Ministers have dithered and delayed. I have had a massive amount of support locally for a ban, and I am once again calling on the Scottish Government to act now. There is no place for animal cruelty in a civilised society. As Scots, we pride ourselves on leading the way, but in this case we are sadly lagging far behind. The Scottish Government can put that right by acting now, and supporting an amendment in the forthcoming Wildlife and Natural Environment Bill. I will be among the first to congratulate them if they do!"
