Local MSP Cathy Jamieson has called for an independent inquiry into the murder of Diane and Holly Fallon.
Questioning the First Minister in the Scottish Parliament Ms Jamieson made the request for an independent inquiry, with the findings reported to parliament and made public. The MSP has also written to the Justice Secretary on this issue.
The Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley MSP also called for a pilot-scheme, already underway in Tayside to be rolled-out nationally. This would give communities access to information about sex offenders living within their local area.
Cathy said: "This was a truly horrendous crime, which has shocked the whole community. I believe the community now deserve answers, and reassurance that this will never be allowed to happen again.
"I recognise that there is an internal police inquiry on-going, however I asked the First Minister to support an independent inquiry with the findings both reported to Parliament, and also made public. I believe that that the public have a right to know what went wrong in this case, and what steps that are now being taken.
"I also urged the First Minister to extend the pilot scheme put in place when I was Justice Minister, and which is currently underway in Tayside. This sees communities being given information regarding sex offenders in their community. I am pleased that the extension of this scheme is under active consideration, and I would push for it to be rolled-out across the country as soon as possible."
