RUMOURS that St John's Primary School could close after the summer break have been denied by East Ayrshire Council.
Parents feared the tiny school, with just over 50 pupils, would close its doors or merge with another Primary with no P1 enrolments for the Autumn term and following staff retirement.
Graham Short, Executive Director of Educational & Social Services, East Ayrshire Council said: "East Ayrshire Council can confirm that there have been no P1 enrolments at St John's Primary School for the term starting in August 2010. This position may change over the coming months.
The Council has given a public commitment to conduct a review of school accommodation in the Cumnock and Auchinleck area.
"This review is not yet completed. Any proposal to change the location of a school, close it or merge it with another school would require a full public consultation under the Schools (Consultation)(Scotland) Act 2010."
East Ayrshire choose not to comment on staff retirements as they related to to individual members of staff.
