Cumnock traders welcome move

ON THE MOVE: Work is expected to begin on Cumnock's Asda store next month.
SUPERMARKET giant ASDA has confirmed it has a "long term commitment" to its new site in Cumnock.
The announcement comes as town centre traders say the multinational chain's arrival will provide a massive financial boost to existing stores in the area.
Work to convert the Townhead Street Somerfield store will begin next month and ASDA has moved quickly to dismiss suggestions it could leave after only 12 months.
Sources had this week indicated it would only be "testing the water" in Cumnock.
But a spokeswoman for ASDA said: "We now have approval from the Office of Fair Trading.
"We are leasing the site but it's not just going to be a one year lease - this is a long term commitment."
Construction work on the new store is expected to begin next month with an opening scheduled for late March.
