East Ayrshire: Is It A Winter Blunderland

As Scoltand lies in the grip of the coldest winter in years, East Ayrshire roads and pavements have proved a daunting prospect for many, especially the elderly.
Snow ice and freezing weather have blanketed the area and brought the perils of slippery roads and pavements as well as the danger of burst pipes.
Anger is directed at East Ayrshire Council, amid claims that they are unprepared for the weather, that they have run out of grit and that they do not have enough snowploughs to do the job correctly.
The Council deny all the charges, saying that their workers have laboured non stop over Christmas and New Year to keep as many roads clear as possible and to keep up essential services.
Have your say. .

The word in that statement is roads. The last time I saw them clear pavements was week before Christmas in middle of Cumnock. Today they started putting black grit to add to mixture for pavements. The main roads haven't been bad.

SNP controlled East Ayrshite Council is a joke.
Roads, housing schemes, Dr's surgeries etc and pavements are STILL icebound and unusable.
A SCANDAL.
Bring back Big Davie Sneller.

How Labour Councils love to screw the poor:
Five days later George Robertson came up with a brilliant solution: resurrect the Poll Tax.
Press reports (Herald 25/1/97) stated that:
"George Robertson offered to open up Britain's tax records to local authorities chasing people who have dodged the poll tax or council tax payments."
This was to "soften the blow" of new council budgets and is a tactic even the Tories didn't stoop to. It met with a "warm response" from the largely Labour dominated Local authority leaders, the report went on:
"Indeed they have suggested that an incoming Labour government go further and allow Councils to make deductions from Social Security payments without having to go to court."
Barely concealing his glee, a spokesman for COSLA, Financial Director, DAVID SNELLER --is quoted by the Herald to have stated that:
"He did not think the labour proposals would be viewed as an infringement of civil liberties or unnecessary... '
There is over £700m owing and we have to get the money somehow.'
He added that enforcement measures, which would involve changing the law, would be targeted at people who had the money to pay and benefit arrestments would involve taking small amounts of money over a long period."
So it seems that when it comes to screwing the poor strict adherence to the law is not such a big deal as it is when setting a budget or when people protest.
Aye, a great guy, Sneller - typical Labour politico. Doesn't give a toss about the poorest in society.
