A Cumnock Academy pupil is set to take the poetry of Robert Burns to new heights - as part of his fantastic trip to the International Space Station in Houston.
Cameron Paterson of Cumnock Academy, and Robert Young, a student a Loudoun Academy, are two of ten students chosen from over 300 applicants to travel to Houstoun. The students will meet former and future astronauts, take part in simulated moon landings and learn how to build rockets.
And a thumb sized book of poetry, created by Alan Archibald of the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde and distant relative of Burn's wife Jean Armour, was presented to Cameron to fellow students to pass on to Astronaut Tony Antonelli, pilot of the space shuttle Atlantis on its mission to the International Space Station in May.
