SNP MSP for the South of Scotland, Alasdair Morgan, has welcomed Dumfries & Galloway Council's decision not to proceed with controversial proposals to close Activity & Resource Centres (ARCs) and congratulated SNP Councillors for supporting the decision.
The chronicle this week reported on one mum's petition to save the Sanquhar resource.
Mr Morgan said: "Last week I said that the Council should take the ARC proposals off the table forthwith and I am very pleased to see that Councillors have decided to do just that. I have received any emails and telephone calls over the past two weeks from people who were understandably extremely concerned and upset.
"It is right that the Council has recognised that these proposals should not be going forward. No-one, I think, has any problem with the principle of personalisation of care, but there can be no question that these proposals were seen by the public to be nothing more than a cost-cutting exercise.
"I would also congratulate and thank my SNP colleagues for supporting this sensible and humane decision."
