Council Leader Douglas Reid was caught in the middle of a armed police operation while out on the campaign trail.
An Armed Response unit and nine police cars swooped on Bellsbank on Sunday afternoon following calls from a resident who had spotted three teens holding a gun.
Local police officers were first to the scene followed by the Armed Response Vehicle. Cops set up blockades in Merrick Drive and re-directed traffic through Craiglea Crescent during the one and a half hour raid.
East Ayrshire Council Leader Douglas reid and SNP Doon Valley Candidate John Bell were in the vicinity campaigning the streets for the upcoming by-election on October 1 when the high drama kicked off.
However armed officers later discovered the weapon carried by the teens, initially believed to be a shotgun by some residents, turned out to be a plastic BB gun.
