Four birds of prey missing from an aviary may have been taken to supply the illegal falcon trade.
The birds worth £3600 in total were taken from the enclosed aviary overnight between Friday July 24 and Saturday 25.
Dalmellington police suspect the theft was a planned operation and are appealing for witnesses.
And although theft of birds of prey is on the rise, East Ayrshire Wildlife Officer, PC Sam Clark is hopeful this incident remains an isolated one.
Pc Clark said: "Peregrines and goshawks are sought after and can attract a high price. It is possible that someone could have innocently purchased these birds or have been offered them for sale."
