CUMNOCK athlete Cameron Robertson"s badminton skills have netted him a new award.
He is one of the first to benefit from a grant scheme to help young sportspeople to pursue their ambitions in support of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Ayrshire Sportsability launched the new award programme for children and young people with physical, learning or sensory disabilities.
Individuals can use the grant to help them compete in local or national sports events. Groups can also apply for help to establish a new club, to buy specialised equipment or to provide opportunities for disabled people within existing mainstream clubs.
The first people to benefit from the new grant were Martin Waddell, Rosie St Louis and Ellis Wilson from Park School in Kilmarnock and Cameron Robertson from Cumnock.
Martin is competing in the swimming, Rosie and Ellis are taking part in equestrian and Cameron is competing in badminton in the Special Olympics in Leicester from 25 to 31 July.
For more information or to apply for a grant of up to £250, contact Ayrshire Sportsability on 01292 513637. The closing date for the next round of applications is 5 July 2009.
