Virus Hits Cumnock
Swine Flu has reached Cumnock with three confirmed cases of the H1N1 virus.
The outbreak is linked to a coach party trip that saw cases in Scotland double in 24 hours.
One resident contracted the illness while on a Rangers supporters" bus that left from Ayrshire, returning to Dunoon, Argyll following the Dundee United - Rangers SPL match on Sunday May 24.
Two of his close contacts were confirmed yesterday (Tuesday June 2) as having the virus. All three individuals are receiving anti-viral drugs, being treated at home and their condition is not giving cause for concern.
Fears were raised that the virus is passing from person to person rather than from travel overseas after Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon confirmed the 23 new cases. Prior to the new outbreak Scotland had only 19 cases in the five weeks since the virus emerged.
Dr Carol Davidson, Director of Public Health said: 'I would advise anyone with flu-like symptoms who has come back from an area affected by H1N1, to stay at home and contact their GP or NHS24. If you have flu-like symptoms and have been in close contact with a probable or confirmed case of H1N1, you should also stay at home and contact your GP or NHS24.'
More information on the virus is available from the Health Protection Scotland website on: http://www.hps.scot.nhs.uk.
