Funding to keep bus fares in the area down has been met with mixed reviews - with some passengers believing prices are far too high in the first place.
The Scottish Government has announced that it"s giving bus companies £4m to avoid fare hikes in the wake of fuel price increases over 2008.
Commuter, Amanda Henry, from Rankinston believes fares should be reduced and bus services could be better. She said: 'Although I own a car I often use the bus to travel to and from Rankinston.
"But the problem is there is so little service information and the prices could be put down a bit as well.'

Got to agree that Stagecoach is holding East Ayrshire hostage. I cant see how Stagecoach can justify increasing fare prices when they hold close to a virtual monopoly in East Ayrshire thanks to an already lucrative subsidy from the government. A good example is in Mauchline where bus commuters cannot get into Glasgow for work any earlier than 8.20 am because Stagecoach refuse to start a 5am X76 service into Glasgow. The earliest service is about 6.30 am start amd that doesnt even take you to Glasgow. You have to change buses at kilmarnock. Daft and incompetent in equal mesure.
Stagecoach have held East ayrshire hostage for too long. More competition and better train services are needed.
