SEPA and Council meet over levels of litter in river

Incidents of pollution concerning part of the Glaisnock Water in Cumnock are being investigated by SEPA.

Horrified resident, James McHardy brought the issue to light about the state of the river , especially at Keir Hardie Bridge.

Mr McHardy is working with SEPA to urge people not to fly tip at the site, and has written a letter to East Ayrshire Council to complain about the state of the water.

Paul Todd, Head of Environmental Health told the Chronicle that the Council had advised SEPA to arrange an investigation of the complaint to prevent any pollution incidents in the river.

David Wilbraham from SEPA"s Ayr office said the problems with litter are a local authority issue and that SEPA are currently investigating the water quality.
