The next crucial step in developing an 'eco-village" for Cumnock will get underway next week.

However, it may be FIVE YEARS before work begins.

The Prince"s Foundation for the Built Environment, who are developing the ambitious plans as part of the overall proposals for Dumfries House, will be returning to the town next week to kick off the 'Enquiry by Design" process.

And they will be encouraging residents of both Cumnock and Auchinleck to come along and say what they would like incorporated in the new village, which will be built on land currently known as Knockroon.

Although the Enquiry by Design process can reduce the planning process by up to two years, it is still expected that it will take at least five years before any sort of work begins on constructing the new village.

The process will kick off with a public meeting at Auchinleck Academy on February 25. Ed Taylor, of the Prince"s Foundation, said: 'Generally speaking, the Enquiry by Design process means we can get all the stakeholders and all the relevant people together to have a say in the planning process at the same time."
