IN THE wake of their first budget the SNP Council has confirmed plans to redevelop Cumnock Town Centre will not be held up by the proposed eco-village in Dumfries Estate.

Local traders had been concerned that the link-up between the council and the Prince"s Foundation could spell further delays to the town centre facelift as the eco-village plans wait to be finalised and implemented.

But as part of his budget speech, in which the SNP also confirmed plans to freeze council tax, Council Leader Douglas Reid re-affirmed their intention to improve the town centre.

He said: 'One of the Council"s greatest challenges and priorities is the much needed regeneration of our Town Centres.

"We cannot, and indeed will not, hide from the fact that our Town Centres have been in decline for some time. We have recognised that they need to be our top priority if we are to achieve the vision of the Community Plan so an additional package of measures has been agreed.'
