EAST Ayrshire's rich history is to feature strongly on TV and radio.

East ayrshire Council's arts and museums service have worked on four television and radio programmes on both BBC and STV all of which will be aired this month.

Programmes like, Made in Scotland (STV), Flog It (BBC), Greatest Scot (STV) and The Covenanters (BBC) have all been inspired by the history of the people and places within Ayrshire.

Staff from East Ayrshire Council's Arts and Museums service have been busy contributing to the many questions posed by researchers whilst producing the programmes.

Flog It (BBC) is scheduled to be aired on 5/11/09 at 15.45 on BBC2, where filming at the Grand Hall, Dick Institute and the Dean Castle is featured. The Flog It team met with the council's museum curators and identified many interesting collections and accounts from the Dean Castle which will be featured within the half hour programme centring around Kilmarnock .

Made in Scotland , first shown in spring, is currently being re-run on STV and featured the Dick Institute gallery and an exhibitor to the Homecoming Creative Burns exhibition, poet Rab Wilson.

Greatest Scot , a competition held on STV which is made up of a series of short programmes currently being aired, about Scotland 's iconic figures, features four of Ayrshire's Innovators, recently featured in the Ayrshire Innovators exhibition at the Dick: Burns, Wallace, Bruce and Fleming. Once again the museums staff provided information and images to the programme researchers.

BBC Radio are due to air a programme based on The Covenanters, on November 12th at 11.30am, partly recorded at the Baird Museum, Cumnock featuring Peden's mask, which was being exhibited there at the time. Jason Sutcliffe, the Museums Development Manager was interviewed for this programme.

Meanwhile, BBC Scotland's History of Scotland returns to Sunday night TV and will also feature the Covenanters this time round.

Leader of the Council, Douglas Reid, said, 'This is great news for East Ayrshire and it demonstrates how nationally important our exhibitions, collections and history are. I don't think we've ever been the basis of four television and radio programmes in one month, which will be of interest to both local people and help to further attract tourists to the area.'
