TOMMY Sloan insists previous experiences against Highland League opposition will ensure Talbot aren’t complacent this weekend.

The Beechwood boys needed two games to see off Huntly in 2009 before squeezing past Lossiemouth two years later.

Sloan has travelled to watch this year’s opponents Buckie - who have won four out of five drawing the other - and knows Saturday’s home tie is as tough as it gets.

He said: “I went to watch them a few weeks back and they were too strong for Nairn, who are also one of the better teams in the Highland League.

“They’ve also beaten Cove Rangers in the early stages of the season so it shows they are a strong side.

“We’ve had games against the Highland League sides before and they are always tough. We needed a replay to beat Huntly and edged Lossiemouth 2-1.

“So this is going to be another tough one. We are capable of winning if the players are at it but it will all come down to who plays better on the day.

“After last season, we’d love another cup run and we’re determined to have another one. Saturday is massive for us.” Talbot haven’t been side-tracked by the Scottish Cup and Saturday’s 2-0 win over Shotts made it two league wins from two.

That came just four days after they reached the Ardagh Glass Cup following a hard-fought 3-1 win over Largs.

Sloan has been delighted with his side’s start and praised his players for digging deep to land the points at the weekend.

He added: “The Largs game was really tough. And playing on the artificial surface really took it out of the players.

“So we were never going to be at our best against Shotts but we did really well and, while it wasn’t our best performance, that was to be expected.

“We’ve made a good start to the season and we’re in good nick going into the Buckie clash.” Mark Campbell is a doubt for the game while on-loan Craig McCracken has been refused permission to play by parent club Ayr.

Martin McGoldrick has returned to light training but his full comeback is still two or three weeks away.
