Together again - after 70 years

A SECOND World War veteran from Cumnock had an emotional reunion with two war-time friends at the weekend - after spending the last 70 years fearing they were dead.

94-year-old Tom Laird from Carbello Farm near Cumnock had not seen Andy Coogan, 93, from Carnoustie, or 90-year-old Tom Hannah, from Blackwood in Lanarkshire, since their time in India in the summer of 1941.

The trio had become good friends after they were called up to the Lanarkshire Yeomanry following the outbreak of war.
